Shortcrust pastry has a short tender crumb and can be used in either savoury or sweet tarts and pies.

Ingredients

250g plain flour

Pinch of salt

140g chilled butter cut into cubes

2 egg yolks

3-4tbsp chilled water

Extra Time 20 mins

1. Place the flour, salt and butter in the bowl of a food processor

2. Pulse until breadcrumb consistency is achieved

3. Add egg yolks and pulse again

4. Add water one tablespoon at a time and pulse until large flakes begin to form

5. Tip onto work bench and bring the pastry together to form a disk

6. Cover with glad wrap and refrigerate for about 20 mins or until ready to use
